Therapy

As I mentioned in Molly's 18 month update, Molly was referred to the Babies Cant Wait program in Georgia at her doctors appointment. The reasons for Molly's referral were her delays in speech and some concern about her fine motor skills.  We had noticed a speech delay for several months and had already talked with Babies Cant Wait after her 15 month appointment but the referral was put on hold while we went through the ENT stuff and got her hearing checked.
Well, the day of her 18 month appointment, I came home and immediately called the program so we could get moving on the process as I know how important early intervention is and wanted to get Molly started with therapy as soon as possible.
Well....apparently, the program takes a while to get things moving, and its seems our county is a little overloaded as well.  It was several weeks from my initial call, and 2-3 calls later, before we ever got a call from someone to schedule the first part of Molly's evaluation.  Unfortunately, the first evaluation really is only paperwork and it was going to be over a month after this appointment before we could get in to see the therapist to have her evaluated to see if Molly even qualifies....so this means over 2 months from my initial contact with the program.
This was not acceptable to me.  I wanted Molly evaluated and treatment begun ASAP. So, I talked to a couple of therapists I know, basically my coworkers, and got a recommendation for a private therapy practice.  We were able to get Molly evaluated and therapy started before her appointment with the Babies Cant Wait evaluator was even able to be scheduled!
So, Molly was evaluated by 2 therapists at Kiddos Clubhouse and she began speech and occupational therapy within a few weeks.  Molly currently goes to therapy twice a week, one hour each time. She gets 1 hour of occupational therapy and 1 hour of speech therapy each week.
It has been amazing to watch how quickly Molly is learning new things and new sounds and words! We love watching her grow and develop and we are so thankful we were able to get help so early.  According to Molly's therpaists she is progressing quickly and they are very impressed with her development!  YAY Molly!!
